In March 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) of Vietnam opened the bidding process for 5G spectrum. Mobifone (3800-3900 MHz), Viettel (2500-2600 MHz) and VNPT VinaPhone (3700-3800 MHz) were awarded with a spectrum to deploy their 5G networks over the country.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) also mandated all 2G networks to be shut down by September 2026 in order to have only 4G and 5G networks operated in Vietnam.
Viettel has been an Atoll user since 2015. For its 5G network engineering, Viettel decided to extend its trust in Forsk/Atoll and adopted Atoll for 5G network planning and optimisation.
